For those of you who are familiar with Pillar-X and our values, will know that we are committed not only to providing quality housing and properties but are focused on building quality partnerships which are Win-Win for both parties. Through our ongoing work in the north-west of England and Glasgow, we are continually looking for organisation which share this like-minded commitment to improving lives for others and one of these organisations is The Trussell Trust.
The Trussell Trust is one of the UK’s largest #foodbank networks with over 1200 food banks nationally. Last year alone, The Trussell Trust delivered over £2.5 million food parcels across the UK reaching millions of people, over 900,000 of which were children.
While Pillar-X does not yet work across the whole of the UK, in our three key markets; #Glasgow, #Bradford and #Liverpool, The Trussell Trust operates more than a dozen food banks and we wanted to reach out to connect with them and help in some small way to support the excellent work they are doing.
Not being in the food industry, or very good chefs, we still wanted to help support these families in need and perhaps bring a bit of Switzerland to their day by sharing some of our quality Swiss chocolate. #Foodbanks always need nutritious, high quality staples such as tinned goods, rice, pasta and UHT milk, but what less people know is that they also have a need for special treats and sweets as well. So, when we asked the #Bradford Food Bank if they would be interested in receiving a donation of Swiss chocolate bars, they were happy to accept and we were happy to help!
Through our research, we learned a great deal about the importance of #foodbanks and their vital role in the UK and wanted to share some surprising statistics* from The Trussell Trust with you:
- The need for food banks in the Trussell Trust network has increased 123% over the past five years
- There has been a 33% increase in the number of food parcels needed compared to the previous financial year
- 94% of people who use a Trussell Trust food bank are unable to afford the essentials and 72% of those referred to food banks have someone in their household living with poor mental health
We realise this is only a small gesture in a very serious matter, but we look forward to supporting The Trussell Trust further over the years as Pillar-X continues to grow and build valuable partnerships in the markets we serve.
If you would like to help, please visit The Trussell Trust website for full details of all their food banks and find out how you can help. As well, please check out the Bradford Central Food Bank with whom we were lucky enough to work with directly.
Be sure to share with us any other great charities you work with as we love to hear win-win-win stories!
